Our favorite hairstyles for boho wedding style
When people think of the bohemian style now, people often think of flower crowns, the nomadic lifestyle, and earthy colors.
People’s references also often go back to the time of the 1960s to the early 1970s, when the flower power movement dominated youth culture. It reached its peak during Woodstock, the three-day festival of peace (and unintentionally, counterculture fashion). But bohemian fashion’s origins, or boho for short, came from a time much earlier than the ‘60s. In 19th century Paris, its arrondissement Montmartre was once known as the melting pot for free-spirited artists and writers living the bohemian life. It’s certainly not just a look, but a way of life.
The bohemian movement and lifestyle have been one of our biggest sources of inspiration, not just for us here at Les Couronnes De Victoire, but for the fashion and wedding industries. Its easy-going vibe and effortless looks have been seen on both fashion and wedding “catwalks.” If you are a bride who is also looking to incorporate a bit of that free-spirit vibe of the boho life into your wedding, here are some of our favourite boho wedding hair looks and accessories for your big day.
California Dreaming
California’s Coachella festival is one of the best references if you are looking for that boho wedding hair inspiration. Every year (except during the pandemic, of course), music lovers gather all over the United States and the world to enjoy the amazing music, art, and cool vibe of the annual event. Flower crowns are typical at the festival, and so are boho-leaning accessories. And both attendees and performers dress the part. Lana del Rey has been a regular at Coachella. She’s not only played for the festival one time, but several times, and on all occasions, she was all dressed up in bohemian fashion. If, like us, you love Lana’s style, then our Camila flower crown is the perfect accessory to adorn your hair on your wedding day. Weaving romanticism and vintage spirit together, its multicolored flowers offer a retro look reminiscent of Lana and a ‘70s fashion icon.
60's Hippie Icon
A reference to boho wedding hair and looks is never complete without a mention of ‘60s Dutch actress, model, and fashion icon Talitha Getty. Talitha was born in Indonesia but lived much of her short life in Britain and, later on, in Morocco. She is actually best remembered for a photo taken on a Marrakech rooftop sometime in January 1969. This photo was taken by English photographer Patrick Lichfield. In this photo, she was wearing a colorful kaftan and harem pants, and cream-colored boots, which she polished with a low half-ponytail. This shot became the image for the elegant gypsy look. Fancy her hairstyle for your boho wedding hair look? We think a hair comb will do the trick! Our two Chiara combs, made of Swarovski crystals, as well as preserved white and golden gypsophila, are crafted to be worn symmetrically. We think these five-inch combs are just the ideal accessory for a half-braid or half-up style, just like Talitha’s look in her iconic photo.
Sleek Sojourn
The bohemian style may be known for its easy-going style, but we think there is also a way to mix a bit more sophistication (think more Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen than Sienna Miller) to your boho wedding hair look. The best way to achieve this is with one or a few hair pins. Our Ornella hairpins bring preserved flowers with cultured pearls together, adding a bit of poetry and romanticism to any look. They can be pinned in a loose bun as well as a braid or half updo, for a bohemian wedding look. Aside from hair pins, you can also go for our Ninan hairband. Its preserved hydrangeas give it that flower power aesthetic, while its Swarovski crystals and pearls add elegance.
The Classic Bride
If you want to have a clean and classic boho wedding hair look, but just a hint of bohemian to your wedding look, then we have the Carmel veil for you. The veil, of course, is a must for any bride who wants to honor tradition. But the Carmen veil is not just your traditional veil. Measuring 200 cm in total, it is made with French-made polyamide tulle, pink, daisies, and hydrangeas, adding that bohemian touch to the timeless wedding accessory. And what is cool about it is that you can wear it for any bridal hairstyle, whether it is a sleek ponytail, a low chignon, a classic bun, a braid, or loose wavy curls.
Down To Earth
Another way to capture that coveted boho wedding hair is to go for a more natural look. Bohemian style is also characterized by natural, earthy colors such as brown and green and the best way to incorporate that to your boho wedding hair look is with accessories that feature natural elements. As part of our Gypsy Queen lookbook, may we recommend our Sofia flower crown? Featuring delicate, preserved flowers and foliage mounted on a brass wire, the Sofia crown will add that much-needed organic twist if you are trying to achieve that boho hair. What we love about this flower crown is that it not only complements many types of wedding dresses, but it is also easy to wear with any kind of boho hairstyle. Wear it over a bun, a chignon, or loose wavy curls!
So there you have it—our favorite hairstyles and accessories for boho wedding style!
